 "Works well" 2010-01-04

By proshopper

This light has a very powerful magnet which makes it stick to the tent and stay in place. I had to have my husband put it on becuase my arthritic hands could not seperate the magnets. The light is not really bright enough for it to be as useful as it could be, but it still serves its purpose. It worked great for a nightlight for my younger daughter who does not like the dark when camping and it did not bother my older daughter who likes to have complete dark to get asleep. The fact that it settled that argument made it worth the purchase.

 "works perfectly for us" 2009-12-27

By J. Smith (Auburndale, fl United States)

I'll start by saying we are family campers - not hardcore backwoods campers. We camp with a 6 year old and 2 year old and this light is perfect for us. It clips up very easily and gives of plenty of light to get everyone changed into their pajamas, settled in their sleeping bags, and bedtime stories read. I like that I can clip it anywhere so I can put it just out of reach of the kids but in a place that I can reach from the sleeping bag. It has a strong magnet so I don't worry about it falling and breaking (or hitting someone on the head). We've used it on many different camping trips and it has worked well each time. I couldn't be happier with this light.

"Handy but not very bright" 2009-09-30

By N. Herron (Middle America)

This light is nice because you can position it pretty much anywhere but it's only bright enough to navigate a dark tent and not step on someone. This is not a reading light or even a light to play cards by. And b/c it's battery operated it's not a good night light. Maybe great in a tiny 1 person tent where you could have it inches from your face/reading material but not in a family size tent.

 "Handy but not needed" 2010-01-04

By proshopper

This set is of good quality. These stakes are the only type we can use for more than a season. They do not bend or get lost in the sand. The top of the stake does come lose so you have to make sure it is pulled to the top before you put it in the ground. The rubber mallet is good quality and fairly heavy. The stake puller worked out really well especially in the sand. The broom and dust pan was really too small to do much good but was handy for spot cleaning. I still have to have my regular size broom to sweep out the tent before folding it. I was kind of disappointed with the quality of the broom and dust pan. They were just not as hearty as I have come to expect from Coleman. I would not say this set is a must have for camping, but it does come in handy.

 "Tent stakes arrived pre-rusted" 2009-08-26

By Marty Yawnick (DFW, TX)

I'm sure that this is a handy kit to have. The tent stakes are much sturdier than the ones that came with my tent. For me, they also arrived pre-rusted -- a significant amount of rust covering most of the metal surfaces on all 4 stakes.

For what I paid for the item plus 2-day shipping, I'd prefer to rust my own stakes. These are going back.

"Nice kit except for one problem" 2009-08-25

By Noname

I bought this kit for my husband after our first camping trip and my husband 1) forgot to bring a mallet and broom and dustpan and 2) the stakes that came with our tent all bent the first time we tried to hammer them in.

It's nice to get it all in one little sack so we don't forget anything. I have since decided a large broom and battery operated hand vac suits my taste better than a little broom and dustpan, but those are still handy to have around.

The stakes in this kit are sturdier than the ones that came with our tent (i.e., they don't bend easily). The mallet works and we have no problem with it.

The stake puller works, but only if the stakes aren't stuck in the ground. The last time we used it, the stakes wouldn't come out and we were afraid plastic heads on the stakes would come off with the stake puller. It would be nice if either the stake heads weren't made of plastic or the stake puller would grip stake body so we could get a grip on the stake and pull.

Other than the problem with removing the stakes, I have no complaints.

"not impressed with defective workmanship" 2009-07-28
By Rachel (Minneapolis, MN United States)
The first tent we ordered had a rainfly that did not fit. A new rainfly solved the problem, but in less than 2 days of using the tent for camping, the zipper split on the door. We received a replacement tent, and when we set it up to make sure every part was present and functional, found a large defect in the mesh ceiling window - just like a run in pantyhose - that would let bugs in. Amazon.com and the company who manufactures this tent were both very satisfactory in customer service and resolving this process, but we are now tentless and recovering from all the frustration this particular purchase caused us before looking into getting another tent (of a different brand). Maybe other purchasers of this tent did not have the same problems as we did, and we were just unfortunate to receive several defective tents, but I cannot recommend this tent to others based on our experience.

 "great tent" 2008-01-27
By Michele M. Rotchford (outer banks, nc)
This was a gift to our children (5 & 3) for Christmas. We have used it only twice (it is winter & we live in NC). We enjoyed our nights out, except it was a little cold, again it is winter. The only down side was the instructions. If you aren't familiar with putting up a tent, it could have been a real chore. Otherwise a great tent.

"A Great Tent For A Great Price!" 2007-10-30
By Z-Dog (Scottsdale, AZ USA)
Texsport Kingwood 3-Room Family Tent

We were looking for a larger tent that wasn't going to cost us too much money as we only camp 2 or 3 times a year. The Texsport, though rated as a 3 room tent, really only comfortably sleeps 4 people with two queen air mattresses inside. This setup also gives you room to keep your gear. The zippered room dividers were worthless and ended up in the trash. Its a nice high tent, easy to setup, and has a screened in top from end to end. This is great for star gazing. The rainfly goes on quickly, and also closes up the top so you keep a little warmth inside. We looked all over for a reasonably priced tent, and this fit the bill perfectly. You are not going to find another quality tent like this for this price - believe me, we looked for months!

The Pros: Very large tent (18' x 10'), easy to setup/teardown, included rainfly, meshed top on 3/4 of the entire tent, good zippers, 3 points of entry.

The Cons: Stakes need to be swapped out with better, heavier duty ones, 3 Room description is misleading

 "Good tent" 2009-07-27
By D. Lupton (Louisville, KY)
Took this tent out for the first time last weekend to do some hiking in the Daniel Boone Nat'l Forest with my girlfriend. Setup was very easy, it took maybe 5 minutes or so. Inside was a little cramped for two people, just make sure you're very close with whoever you're sharing the tent with, because you'll pretty much be sleeping elbow to elbow. We were both able to use a sleeping pad with a little bit of overlap in the middle. I'm about 6'1 or so and I did notice that when I laid down on my back my feet would graze the mesh at the end of the tent, not really a big deal though, at least not for me. There was plenty of headroom so I was able to sit up without my head touching mesh.

As far as rain protection goes, I was pretty impressed with this tent. We endured very heavy rain on and off throughout the evening and night. The tent kept us very dry. I only have one complaint, there was one spot where the poles crossed at the top of the tent where the fly seemed to leak a little. I think I may just need to seam seal the entire fly, even though ALPS says you don't have to. But other than that we had no water get in from the sides.

We had two weekend packs(3400 and 4000cu in) with us, with one in each vestibule. It covered these easily with room to spare for our shoes and did a good job of keeping our gear dry too.

Overall, this is a pretty good tent, especially for the price. And I would definitely recommend it, but I would also recommend that you seam seal the fly before taking it out.

 "Great value; high quality" 2009-07-11
By Mbirds (Alexandria, VA)
At the price, this is a great tent. The quality is there and it compares well to tents twice the price for a weight penalty of only a few ounces. I set mine up side-by-side with my friend's $250 REI quarter dome T2. He was impressed, and the only differences I noted on his were reflective guy lines, an included pole splint ($5) and a lighter fly. Plus more footroom on his. However, his fly lacked the little windows on the Alps: I actually used mine to check on another camper who was near my bike in the morning.

Here are the only downsides I can find so far with the Zephyr:

1) The footprint is hard to find. Search for "floor saver."

2) There are partial sleeves so you cannot pitch the footprint/fly and then be sheltered to pitch the rest of the tent. However, you can pitch just footprint (not included) and fly for a light shelter.

3) With the fly door unzipped all the way, water can enter the tent. Just don't unzip all the way if it is raining.

4) The tapered design would leave things tight in the foot area if a second person were present. I plan to just use it solo or with one of my kids.

EDIT: I have now decided that #3 is not bad, as it allows a nice view straight up at the stars when you are laying down with the fly open.

All in all, I was very pleased. I found a deal on a Zephyr 3 and snatched it up without hesitation for the rest of the family, or if I need a tent for two adults.

 "Great tent/amazing price" 2009-05-20
By Kevin M. Orzechowski (New York, NY)
I just spent my first night out in this tent. My buddy and I were going to leave our rain flys off as the evening was cool and clear, but decided to avoid the hassle of a midnight scramble. At two in the morning the heavens clouded over, opened up, and poured down furiously. I had hoped for a more gentle trial of the Zephyr 2, but...

I woke up completely dry the next morning. I did find a bit of condensation had made its way through the floor under my sleeping pad, where a puddle had formed in a depression in the ground. It was nothing major, and next time I'll be sure not to set up in a hole. This tent is lightweight, coming in under 5 lbs., very easy and quick to set up, and most importantly, weather ready. This is my first introduction to ALPS products and I intend to consider more of their products in the future.

 "Zephyr Zenith " 2009-03-19
By C. Doom (USA)

I like a roomy tent that is not too heavy and is easy to transport. This item fits the bill. It is only 5 pounds and is simple to pack. The tent has ample room for me and all my gear. I can move in it without constantly brushing against the sides.

The Zephyr is easy and quick to pitch and offers fine protection from the elements. Zephyr has a polyester fly and provides a water proof abode.

I like this item.

 "Great Tent" 2009-02-28
By ministercreek (Madison Wisconsin)
I should point out from the get-go I have the Zenith 2 AL tent (which I purchased from Sierra Trading Post.com). It is the same exact tent except for the color of the rainfly. All I can say this is one excellent little tent. Very lightweight, has good ventilation, quick and easy set-up and holds up to adverse weather quite well.

I used my Zenith (Zephyr) in weather conditions ranging from hard rains and strong winds to light snowfalls. Held up and continues to hold up very well.

The tent's quality is very good. Hard to find a tent as good for the price. Beats any BIG name brand tents (such as Sierra Designs or Mountain Hardware) in terms of quality and price. A definate great buy in my opinion.

 "keep dry" 2009-09-22

If you want to insure that you stay dry in the rain, make sure you purchase this footprint. It fits the tent perfectly. I would say it is a necessity if you are into serious backpacking or camping where you are likely to encounter rain. And remember, you never know until you're there!

"An absolutely essential accessory for the Teton 2." 2008-08-05
By Matt Keaton (Charleston, WV)
It is exactly tailored to the special shape of the tent--having rings located at the four corners so that the tent's press-fit poles directly connect it to the tent itself--and works very well in protecting the floor of the actual tent as well as keeping it nice and dry. And because it was made to fit the Teton 2 specifically, the footprint is completely hidden once the tent is fully assembled.

While tarps are often used for the same purpose, they can be hard to manage being that they're often big, heavy, noisy and just dowright cumbersome. The footprint, however, is light, cleans and dries easily & quickly, and packs right along with the rest of the tent while in storage. I definitely made the right decision spending the extra $30 and would heavily recommend it to anyone even considering the Teton 2 as a tent purchase.
