We needed this for vacation with our three boys. My brother in Law bought one of the standard four legged 10 x 10 sunshades, with four, telescoping metal legs. We got to compare the two, side by side on the beach.

The Kelty is cool looking, VERY lightweight to carry and store. Main issuss I had with it...if it's windy, even with all the tie downs, it's a struggle on sand. The wind can pull the pins out of the sand. Rocks would be helpful. The three sides where the poles are...block quite a bit of the view.



On the other hand, my brother in law's standard canopy,...much heavier BUT, no view blocked, and fared much better in the wind..and more room for laying down under the canopy. The Kelty claims a large footprint, but with the tripod legs coming down with the fabric on them...less area to lay under.



If I were to do it over, and am going to the beach (driving)...I'd consider the metal, four legged canopy. If traveling far from your vehicle, the Kelty is much lighter.

We bought the Kelty Sunshade (L) for use at the beach this year. In previous years, we had used first one then two umbrellas, as the family grew, to give us enough shade. With the new airline checked bag prices, I decided we needed something we could stuff in a suitcase.

The first 2x we set up the shade, it took 2 people about 15 min. Each setup after that got faster and easier. For easiest assembly, I recommend putting all of the tent poles through the sleeves first, before attaching any to the grommet. Attach the 1st pole to the grommet, then have someone hold it upright while attaching the other 2. When taking down, be sure to push the poles out of the sleeves, as pulling will cause them to come apart.

It's great to use for giving our young kids shade in their wading pool, and easy enough to set up that it's not a hassle even if using it for only an hour.

For use at the beach, this gives a much larger shade footprint than a beach umbrella. We've had 4 adults and 2 kids under the shade at the beach with no crowding. I use Sierra Sand Stakes to anchor against the wind, and have had no problems with 10-15mph sustained winds from the gulf.

Packing was easy, as the whole thing weighs only 10 lbs, and fits in a large suitcase.



Update: After a few days of setting this up on the beach as suggested above, I was faced with needing to do it alone. I found that if you push all of the poles through the sleeves, then flip the sunshade "upside down", all 3 poles can then be attached to the grommet holes, giving you a completely assembled (upside down) sunshade...just turn it over and stake it down.

I've now owned this shelter for 2 years. I primarily use it at the beach. For some, it might be a bit difficult to set up. The poles are a bit tedious to assemble, but I can set up the shade in about 10-15 minutes. Take down is more difficult since the pole sections tend to come apart as they are pulled from the shelter sleeves.



The included stakes are not adequate for holding in sand on a windy beach. I bought 6 dog screws from Lowes to hold it down. 5 gallon buckets filled with sand would also work well. I also bought 1 wall section that I move with the sun for added shade. The only con of the shelter is the limited headroom. I'm 6 feet tall and can stand up in the center, but then you have the roof in your face and cannot see out. There is a cave-like feel inside, but its fine once you are seated.



The real reason I decided to write this review is to praise Kelty. My shelter was ripped when a beach umbrella was blown into it. I contacted Kelty to buy new fabric, but they said send it in and maybe we can sew it for a small fee. Less than a week later, a new sunshade arrived at my door at no charge! I know if I ever need a new tent, it will be a Kelty.

I recently saw a couple of these shelters on a camping trip and knew I had to have one. After reading some reviews on the square footprint versions and heard they were difficult to set up,I opted for this because I typically have to accomplish this chore alone. I had this shelter up within five minutes all by myself and I'm a small person. The poles are some of the thickest and most heavy duty bungee type fiber-glass poles I've ever seen and it really pays off once the shelter is standing. It feels super sturdy. The poles account for most of the 10 pounds of total weight, but it's not to heavy to carry a good distance. One feature that I thought showed great fore-thought was that there were two sets of eyelets in the bottom strap that the pole feet hook into. This would assure a snug fit over the years as the fabric stetches, otherwise you'd wish you had some way to take up the slack. I haven't used the shelter in a high wind situation yet, but judging by the sturdiness afforded by the triangular shape... I'm sure it would do great as long as you staked it down with the six provided stakes (2 opposing stakes per foot). Plenty of room in the stuff sack elminated what's always my biggest fear, getting it all back in the bag. No problems there. I'd definitely recommend this one to anyone.

I am very fair-skinned and bought this to take on a beach vacation a few weeks ago. It is awesome! I didn't want to get a tent that I had to set up at all and since this literally pops up by itself it was great. It's really easy and compact and comes with a carrying case with straps. And it doesn't blow away on the beach no matter how windy it is! It's got side pockets which you can fill with sand which holds it down. The only thing I would caution people about is opening the tent - you have to kind of throw it away from you because it pops up really quick and forcefully. Great product, I love it and would highly recommend it!

This is a very basic shower shelter. Does not stand on its own, very unstable, no accessories included. Yes, it's inexpensive but when it comes to showering or other private needs spend more money and get something that works with relative easy--this doesn't. Inside it's smaller than expected and securing the four corners to the ground while trying to keep it stable is no fun. No accessories included, like a shower bag (I just bought another shower shelter and it came with a shower bag), or a chair (notice the model in the picture is sitting). I would not recommend.

for the price it is a good buy. The only drawback I see with the product is the water bag hangs from the center leaving less room for the shower. I remedied that by simply hanging the bag on a separate rope towards the back wall.

Received as a gift and used with a Zodi camp shower system rather than the solar shower bag included. Pluses are low cost and simplicity. Minuses are:



1) not self supporting. need to find something to hang it from at an appropriate height

2) low end construction. One of the loops holding the material sides went right out of the box due to a sewing flaw.



So overall...good if all you want to spend is $30 and basically want something for one or two seasons then throw away. If you want something self supporting look elsewhere.

We just purchased this for our summer beach vacation. Set up was very easy and doable in moderate wind. Very light and much better sun protection than an umbrella. Stakes very easily and can also be weighted down with 4 small attached bags that can be filled with sand or rocks. Can easily seat 2 chairs inside of it and sit and enjoy the beach. The kids also loved playing inside of it. Very easy to collapse and roll up; we were able to get almost all of the sand out of it each day. Over-all a nice addition to our annual beach trek. Will also use as a secondary shelter for car camping, but wouldn't use as a tent in inclimate weather.

This tent is as low weight as advertised. It's a very nice size, too. It's supposed to be for two people, but I am only one person, and I found it very comfortable. This tent is not difficult to set up. I set it up in fading light without much trouble. My only concern with this tent is its waterproofing. I haven't used it in rain.



Obviously, you can't stand up in it. However, I found it to be long, and I could sit comfortably.

I bought mine just before a 3-week trip to Scotland this summer. A fair bit of that trip was spent camping.



Quality control over the tent's manufacture was lacking, otherwise I would have given it five stars. It had a lot of tattie loose threads on the seams and one part of the fly was slightly folded where it had been stitched, causing a small area prone to leak. Nothing in all of this that some seam-sealing and a little maintenance couldn't fix.



Beyond that, the tent was fantastic! It was really put through its paces in interesting weather... howling winds at Glen Shiel, Lots of rain at Glen Etive and Kinlochleven, and howling winds with driving rain on Skye. It stood up to all of that without any leaks, tears, or other problems, and I thought sure it would get shredded at Glen Shiel. The netting is fine enough to keep out Scotland's notorious midgies, so even they were not a problem.



Great tent, I would recommend it.

This is by no means a high end backpacking tent. If you are into long multi-day hikes that take you deep into the forest, so get a nicer unit.

However, for the occasional overnight venture where no real extremes of weather occur, this is fine. It is reasonably light at 4 pounds, surprisingly well made. I had no trouble with the fiberglass poles as others have stated. Do remember to seam seal it.

I bought this tent for shelter for our my 5 month old while we're at the beach. We have used it twice now and we love it. It easily sets up and folds down pretty easily. It may take you a couple trys to get it completely folded down to fit in the bag, before you get the hang of it. Otherwise, it is a great tent, well worth the money. It is roomy, great air ventilation, I love that it has a floor to it (other tents I looked at didn't have that feature), light weight and easy to carry once folded down. I am very happy with this purchase.

I searched the Internet far and wide for a beach shelter big enough for two people to lay down inside comfortably and be completely protected by the sun -- with very easy set-up and take-down. This one seemed to fit the bill perfectly, although I was concerned about the negative reviews here with respect to wind damage. When it arrived, my boyfriend and I opened it up at home as practice before hitting the beach (great advice from previous reviewers). We were very impressed with how quickly it really does pop up and come down, and how easy it is to get back in the carry bag.



Fast forward to its first day on the beach. We pop it up, we weigh down the pockets with big rocks from the beach, and we tie a knot on top (also great advice I got here). It was wonderful for about two hours -- until it BROKE! On the first day out! One of the curved plastic rods on top broke at one of the joints, and the whole thing collapsed because of it. I think one of the other negative reviews mentions that the plastic used in this tent has basically no structural integrity, and I certainly believe that to be true, as well. There was a sea breeze, but when is there not a breeze on the beach? And plenty of other tents in our vicinity made it through the entire day.



I was ready for battle when I contacted Amazon to get a refund. I had read here that other people had a horrible time getting their money back, but now I think those people may have purchased through ABO Gear directly. I'm SO glad I purchased through Amazon. No questions asked, no battles fought -- I just called for a return shipping label and then they informed me when they received the product, when the return was processed, and again when they had credited my account.



So, I'm disappointed that the tent turned out to be useless on an average day at the beach (here in the Northeast US, at least), but I'm so impressed with Amazon's customer service. After this experience, I'll be much more likely to purchase bigger ticket items through them in the future.

The Instent Max Shelter exceeded my expectations by a mile. It provides instant fun for my granddaughter both in and out of the house. I set it up effortlessly twice on a Cape Cod beach; it also was easy to collapse. My granddaughter fell asleep inside of it and was shielded from the sun while a breeze from the side windows kept her cool.



I recommend Instent for both children and for adults. No more hassles trying to set up umbrellas that always get blown away, or trying to keep the sand off blankets.

I have this for a little over 1 year and used it just (3) times before one of the joints broke. After further examination I found that the joints are under a lot of stress but are only plain injection molded plastic and are not fiber plastic or aluminum which is what they should be made of.



The design is good the implementation is just plain cheap. The joints are way to weak and I am surprised it lasted even as long as it did.



I would not recommend this item. A far better solution is a small dome style tent with fiberglass rods with aluminum joints. It will perhaps take you a bit longer to set-up but at least it will not collapse while you are on vacation.



So my advice is give this item a pass I will be contacting the manufacturer but do not expect to much form them.

We loved the tent. A definite must have for families with small children! I was nervous when I ordered it because of the reviews. My fears were unfounded. It was easy to set up and spacious. The quality was also better than expected- it lasted all week and I foresee it lasting for many more trips to the beach. The stakes stayed put and the tent never got caught by the wind. I only wish the vents were lower so my baby could have enjoyed the breeze and stayed a little cooler.

I bought this for our little vacation to the beach a few weeks ago. It does require more than one person for set up if you're on a windy beach - that's for sure. At first, I was aggravated because I didn't see any instructions for it. But my husband and I were actually able to figure it out in a few minutes without instructions. Once you lay it out and figure out what you've got, it's easy. On our last day there, as we were taking it down, I noticed that there ARE instructions - on a tag that was sewn into the sleeve. *doh*!



There was a day that was particularly windy, and the thing leaned to the right a great deal, but it never collapsed.

We didn't use chairs at all, just towels. It's not really big enough to house regular sized chairs, but you could probably get some of those little short beach chairs in there.



I was happy with my purchase and liked the fact that this tent is really versatile. And it's not expensive, so that was also a big plus.

We bought this for our yearly trip to the beach. We have a new 9-month old baby this year and wanted something that had a floor on it and something more than an umbrella to keep the sun off her. When this item arrived, I was surprised at how small the package was. That was great because it would not take up much room in the car. We practiced putting it together before we left and it took up much of our living room. Once we got to the beach, we were able to set it up in about 5 minutes. We used it 3 days, and while it was never really really windy any of those days, it worked great. We had no problems at all, and the sandbags on the outside are great for stability. What we liked the best was that it had a floor and the baby was able to sit on it and play and then we put down a towel and she was able to go to the back away from everything and take her nap. We will definitely be taking it back with us each year. Great product for the money!

I was very excited about getting the aerodome because we go the beach every week during the summer and I have a 15 month old baby. Unfortunately, I couldn't figure out how to build it the first time we went to the beach. When we got home, my husband and I tried to put it together and it took the 2 of us to "semi" build it. The long pole was too long to fit in the pocket leaving us frustrated and unable to use it. It looked spacious if only we would have been able to use it!
