First impression: This tent is just what I was looking for. Have used it one night. Huge advantage with this tent is how easy it goes up (and down). Not sure that I'll use the DC outlets but will definitely use the opening for an external extension cord. Was surprised how much mesh is in the side walls. A plus in warmer climates. I intend to use this some in Colorado in the summer with overnight lows in the 30's and 40's at times. Should be okay with the rain fly. Mid September I'll find out for sure. The size will be perfect for my use but don't expect to put 5 adults in there. Seems to be well built. Good product!

 "Great Tent!" 2009-06-16
By Cool Mom (Malvern, PA)
My husband and I bought this tent last fall for a camping trip. We really enjoyed it all in all. I will tell that it say's it's a three season tent. I think that is pushing it. We went to Penn State for a camping trip in mid November. The weather was calling for a cool temps and a low chance of snow flurries. Well when we arrived at our site, there was 10 inches of snow on the ground. Prior to leaving for the trip we water sealed the seams. We stayed completely dry, no problems with that. However, the temperature was the problem. During the day temps were in the mid to upper 40's, at night it was in the low 30's. Because of the very large windows on the sides of the tent, it is impossible to stay warm. It is very drafty. We even had an air mattress and two very expensive, very good sleeping bags with extra blankets. No ways were we comfortable.

But if you are using this tent for spring, summer, very early fall, I highly recommend it. The lights are a great feature. They are actually a very pretty blue color. The light is just enough for was you need to do. YOU WILL NEED THE POWER CONNECTOR! It is a separate price. The nice thing about having the power is you can charge your cell phone, use a hair dryer, etc.

The space is great too. We were able to fit a queen air bed and two twin air beds in the space.

I think you can't go wrong for the price, and it really is good quality.

We camp in South Korea, the mountainous country demands a sturdy tent. We are proud to let you in on a secret; this is the one [for 3 Season Applications], I slept thru thunderstorms, for two days? Heres the secret, for this tent do purchase a Coleman Event 14, this 9x9 Tent fits under the Shelter, and when all 4 doors are installed and a Tarf on the top of the dome, tied down----Baby, your going to sleep well and dry. and you even get a Bonus Backyard to set up a shower and toilet. God must have bless this marriage between Coleman Product and Eureka, and I am happit is all mine. I have the first Eureka 9x9 and Coleman Event 14 in country, the Koreans are very envious of our products and their inter-uses. And don't forget the a small tarf to close up the Event 14 and 15 Roof Breathing Portal in a storm, don't curse the storm---romance in your dry tent, while others swim in their own problems. For a Eurecka N!ergy 9, a Coleman Event 14 will suffice, and give more rooom then you will ever need to move around in a storm, thats, Kitchen, Toilet, Shower and Stores, under one roof protected from all elements.

 "Roomy!" 2009-10-12
By C.D.King (MA)
Very nice tent. Seems to be very well made, I've only used it on one trip so far. Everything was in the box. I did a test run and set it up at home first. I'm a 35-ish mom and I was able to put it up BY MYSELF! I was proud of myself lol. I of course left the power pack thing at home charging up, so I wasn't able to plug anything in during the trip. But as a tent it was great, and seemed like it would have been nice with the power pack, seemed like enough plug ins and stuff. Extra coverage from the rain fly would have been nice, like a little more overhang over the doorway for when it rains.

By K. Kerneen (Maryland)
This is a great tent. Set up is very easy. The first set up took us less than a half hour. We just used it for the third time last weekend and we timed the set up at 15 minutes. I think it is possible for one person to set it up by themselves, however it is much easier for two people. The power supply to the tent is fantastic and can be used with any power pack that has a cigarette lighter outlet on it. The cargo net that hangs from the ceiling is very handy and keeps belongings up and out of the way. We liked ours so much, we purchased a second one for my daughter, son-in-law, and two grandchildren. We had a great family camping weekend together and the grand kids had a blast. We have not had the opportunity to test it in rainy weather, however I have no doubt it will perform well in bad weather. We do not feel it will sleep 10 people unless you wished to be crammed like sardines in a can. I can tell you it will sleep 4 adults with two queen-sized air mattresses comfortably and still have room for your belongings. We would definitely recommend this tent to family and friends.

 "Awesome Tent" 2009-09-09
By L. Arnold (Cincinnati OH)
I haven't camped for a long time. We are a family of three (Mom, Dad and a 10-year old son). We have never camped together as a family as I (Mom) have simply refused to go. But, a recent interest in paddling and the synergy between camping and spending a day on the water was enough to cause me to reconsider. My participation hinged on having the most acceptable accomodations that one can have in a campsite. I shopped around and chose this N!ergy 13x10 tent. The appealing features were that it comfortably sleeps 4 people with gear for a week, there is a room divider so my son (and a friend) could have their own space while my husband and I had ours and I had to be able to stand up inside the tent (I'm 5'8" tall). Setup was a breeze. My son and I can put the tent up with the rain fly in 20 minutes. When we arrived for our first outing, we put the tent up in total darkness and broke camp in a severe thunderstorm - and it still took about the same 20 minutes. The tent was amazing. The power feature is just fantastic. I could sleep comfortably with the Eureka fan and it was nice to know that we could charge a cell phone or an iPod if we chose to.

My husband made fun of the tent when it arrived. He was certain that neighboring campers would walk past pointing and giggling. After the first trip, he said the tent was well made and well designed. Anyone pointing at our tent did so because they wanted one and no one threatened to have his REI membership revoked.

Schumacher Electric makes other power options besides just the Eureka Power Pak. We used the power source below and it worked really well.

 "Nice quality tent, but...." 2008-10-01
By Josh Ruhnke (Rochester, MN)
We've been using a Cabela's 4 man tent for a few years now with the two of us on a blow up mattress and also a Great Dane and his bed. We really liked that tent and had no problems with it until we had a baby. We wanted to find a bigger tent so we could accommodate our mattress, dog, and a pack-n-play for our baby. We found this tent pre-opened at Cabela's in Owatonna, MN for a great price. We had been researching tents for a while and we were going to actually purchase the smaller Eureka Copper Canyon tent. So we got home and set it up, set up wasn't too hard. The only part that was somewhat difficult was getting the vertical poles in, you need some strength for that. The next weekend we went to Interstate State Park in MN and got everything set up inside the tent and had more room that we knew what to do with! oh well.. The next day it rained on and off all day and with the baby we needed to get in and out a lot to put him down for naps and other things, which brings me to the thing that I did not like about this tent. The rain fly did not cover the opening to the door at all! Rain got in the tent extremely easy. Also, we did not seal the seams on the rain fly and it did drip in from the top in a few spots, but I'm sure if we sealed the seams it would have had no issues. After that rainy weekend I cleaned it up and returned the tent. The tent that we're looking to get for next season is the Big Agnes, Big House 6 with Vestibule. http://www.bigagnes.com/str_tents.php?bid=12

"Tent as big as a condo" 2008-09-30
By S. Hohman (Pacific Northwest)
After 30 years we decided it was time to buy a new tent to replace the canvas White Stag tent that has served us well for many camping trips. Although these old bones have gravitated to using a camp trailer most of the time, we still go places where we cannot haul the trailer. I purchased this right before we went on a Labor Day trip after buying 2 other brands and sizes and returning them.

The best part is the ceiling height. The tent has virtually straight side walls which makes standing up easy (well over 6 ft). There is plenty of floor space - we had two cots and a queen size air mattress inside with room to spare. The tent is extremely well ventilated with large windows. The windows do not zip shut, but have toggle fasteners on the top. You do have to use two hands to open the zipper on the door, which is pretty large. We also purchased the battery and used it.

A pretty cool feature is that when the tent is plugged in to the battery pack there are toggle switches inside the tent which when turned on glow blue at the connections so you can see them in the dark and they also provide a nice night light (and you easily can find your tent in the dark after a trip to the outhouse). You can plug any 12 volt accessory into the plugs - they are just like a cigarette lighter plug. I bought a 12 volt under hood car battery light with a very long cord that worked great as an inside flashlight.

I agree the tent takes a while to set up with two people and the instructions aren't great - the poles could be color coded better which would help.

As for weatherproofing - I have to rate this as excellent. 1st - we live in Oregon, 2nd it was a 3 day weekend, 3rd we were camped on a lake on the western side of Mt. Hood, so that meant that it had to rain sometime over the weekend, even though it was late August. And the Oregon weather God didn't disappoint, as it began to sprinkle on Sunday and as night approached it increased until it was pouring rain for at least 15 hours (enough moisture to send the non-native Oregonians scampering home out of the campground). It was raining so hard and dripping water so badly from the fir trees that big batches of water would pool on the top of the rain fly and then eventually pour off like you were dumping a bucket of water onto the ground - not the most pleasant camping circumstances. I thought the tent would collapse it was so bad and we would float down the mountain. I was also worried about leaks through the windows and kept checking the floor - but alas nary a drop came through the tent and I was amazed that we and our gear stayed dry all night. We always prepare for rain regardless of season, so we could still sit outside, but there is plenty of room where you could set up a table and plug in a lamp and stay dry inside the tent. I notice this says it's a 10 person tent. You could maybe stuff 10 kids inside, but 5 people with some gear would be a more reasonable estimate.

The only reason I did not rate this as 5 stars is that although the tent itself is lightweight nylon material, the poles are very heavy (separate bag) and the tent bag tore almost immediately due to the weight of the poles. I am going to replace the carry bag since it is not adequate for packing in and out of a truck full of gear. It could also use foot lockers or gear bags on the side. One of my pet peeves is there is no place to put your eyeglasses at night. There is a gear loft but it hooks to the ceiling to save floor space, not the best idea.

My son teases me that we have a portable condo since we now have a tent with electricity, but it stood up to a drippy camping trip and dried out swiftly which our canvas tent never did.

 "Arrived partially broken" 2009-07-29
By E. Mitchell (Spokane, WA USA)
This tent, like most, uses fiberglass poles connected with "shock cord" (also known as elastic cord). Unfortunately, upon arrival, we opened the package and found that one of the shock cords was severed, rendering one pole set unusable.

While Electronica Direct would provide a replacement after shipping this one back to them, that would not work for our time frame and upcoming vacation. So we fixed it ourselves by buying shock cord and installing new shock cord inside the poles. FYI - it is hard to find shock cord in mid-summer - all sporting goods stores were sold out, as were all but one fabric store. If you need shock cord, the fabric stores sell 1/8" elastic cord, which is the same thing, for about .49/yard, and seem more likely to have it in stock than camping stores.

I recommend that Eureka use stronger shock cord and/or protect the ends of the poles during shipping so that the cord would not arrive in a severed condition. I do not blame Electronica Direct - this quality issue is Eureka's problem and their China-based manufacturer that ships the tents fully packaged to US distributors.

I wanted to change the review to 3-stars but Amazon won't let me change my initial selection. The tent will hopefully perform fine in the field - but we are taking extra shock cord and duct tape just in case. I selected this tent, in part, due to the nearly full coverage tent fly, unlike many other tents that cut corners with flys that come down to about 3 feet off the ground and provide no protection for the lower section of the tent. The size of the tent can easily accommodate 2 adults, and gear, in each of the 2 "rooms". You could fit six depending how packed you want to be and how much gear you might have to leave outside. The 12-volt sockets were not a factor in our purchase decision; however, they are standard 12-volt "cigarette lighter" style connectors so you can use most any 12 volt source and many types of 12-volt accessories available in car part stores or marine/RV supply stores, if you wish.

Update: The tent works reasonably well - during one night we had very high winds (probably gusting over 45 mph). We did need to stake out guy lines to the attachment points on the fly. The tent did function, did not tear or come down - but did do a fair amount of shaking/warping in the high winds. I went out and compared the wind effect on this tent to others in the campground. There were several, usually the big Coleman tents, that were really flapping around badly. Small 2 or 3 person tents had less wind profile and generally did better (one was not staked down and was lifted up and pinned into a tree!). An REI 4-person 2-room tent with the full vestibules (expensive tent by the way) was next to us and was by far the sturdiest in this wind event.

Another night we had 3 Rocky Mountain thunderstorms in a row. The 2nd one nailed us with extremely heavy rain and hail. However, the tent withstood this fine (good to know!) However, the rain event was so intense and the wind blowing it sideways that some of it did force its way through the fully zipped door on one side of the tent. It was not a lot of rain that came in but we had a very small puddle - I expect that all tents in this rain event had rain forced through the zippers. The only exception was the one tent that had a FULL coverage rain fly, even down over the door area. And I have to re-emphasize this was an extraordinary rain event - not a normal rain storm.

We liked having the 2-room capability of the tent as it split up the 4 of us (2 adults and 2 adult children - teens) really nicely.

I really like this tent. The rain fly does not touch the tent so you can move around freely when it is rainig outside. I seamed sealed my tent and have had no issues of any water getting in. I wish that it had a 110 plug in but the 12v fan and air pump work great. It's nice and tall so standing up in it is no problem. Me and my 2 white boxers fit great in this tent.

 "I love this tent" 2009-06-21
By J. Kluin (Boulder City, Nevada)
Eureka tents are well built, and this one is no exception. The fiberglass poles are alot thicker than from a less expensive tent. This makes the tent sturdy even in heavy wind or gusts. You'll need a battery pack, a cord and a light that works in the tent and is sold by Eureka. The whole set up works well. We have the light with a fan. I love the little blue lights at every plug in point. This is great for when you are camping in very dark locations. Your eyes can get used to the dark a little better. I would definitely recommend this tent to others.

By far one of the best investments I have ever made. Tent sets up easily and drops quickly. I have used it on four seperate camping occasions during spring, summer and fall and will be trying it out this coming winter. The wiring is not an issue and I suggest that you spring for the e-power pak. Great invention for us "old timers". Thanks

 "Great idea" 2008-09-30
By S. Hohman (Pacific Northwest)
We purchased this battery to go with our Eureka tent which has the plug-ins. It charged fast and for us easily lasted a weekend, although we only used it at night. It has a light which tells you when it's charging, charged and a push button to turn it on and off.

It does not come with any cords. You have to supply the cord or plug-in which is a cigarette lighter type connection.

In our case, the tent came supplied with a cord which extended through a special slot to the outside of the tent so you could sit the battery right outside the door.

This is good for using any type of 12 volt accessory such as a flashlight, DVD player, cell phone charger, or maybe a game player although I am not sure how long it would last with anything that draws much power.

We have an inverter which plugs into our truck which technically could probably recharge this battery, but I did not try that and would need to check the safety guidelines to see if that is recommended or not, but it worked great for us.

"Nice idea but short-lived under actual usage" 2008-01-03
By Annette Keenberg (Los Angeles, CA USA)
Positives

Noiseless power anywhere. With the addition of a 110 invertor, you can run most any gadget without worrying about finding an outlet.

Compact size. Too heavy by far for backpacking, car campers will love this if they've always wanted to be able to run their computers in their tents. Or tailgaters who have a TV to hook up and only a small spot left to pack in power.

Negatives

Eureka customer service. Don't expect them to respond to questions posed via email and be prepared to wait a while for phone support.

Very small charge in the end. It takes 8 hours (when using your wall outlet) to charge and less than an hour to drain. They don't mention that part in any of the pre-purchase materials. If you are running a laptop off of it, expect just under an hour. If you are running a TV, plan on 30-45 minutes, depending on the size (13 or 15 inch). Power tools get about 15 minutes. All that is spelled out clearly on the paperwork you get only after you buy.

Summary

If you are looking to power a small lamp or fan in your tent or be able to re-charge your cell phone, this works fine. If you want to use it for laptops, digital cameras and such, plan on getting less than an hour of power for an all night charge.
