As a scoutmaster and avid camper, I think this is a very good tent for the money.


If you camp every week or month, spend a little more money. But for occasional use it will do fine.


$300 tents leak,I know, I have one. If you are camping in the rain, you will get wet.If you can't take the elements, use an RV or stay home. I highly recommend this tent for entry level camping.

I did my research and found this tent would fit my needs perfectly. i was going to take my 2 daughters camping and needed some room for them and their junk. Tent came super fast and box wasnt as big as i thought it would be. Perfect because i have to carry everything myself.





I didnt get a chance to pre-assemble it because i live in an apartment and its way to big to set up in my living room. I read the instructions and it seemed pretty simple. When it came time to put it up, i was going to have only my 8yr old help me out !





Day of camping I first put a tarp under the tent just in case of leaks or rain. Tent was a breeze setting up. Daughter only had to help hold the 2 poles while i attached them at the bottom clips. Only took about 40 minutes to get it up,and that was taking my time so I could let my daughter "help".





The tent was pretty roomy. Came with super zippers that can open/close the doors halfway, partway, sideways, upside-down!! really kewl. It also came with little pouches to put your needed stuff in easy to find spots. there was even a storage at the top of the tent for hmm my bread!! great so it didnt get smashed.


Size of the inside was big enough for a queen sized inflatable bed and a twin sized futon (i wanted something soft to sleep on!)> Tons of room for all the gear along the sides.





It didnt rain so I didnt get to see if it was watertight. I bought the seam sealers but didnt use them because i didnt have time to air it out afterwards. But it seemed pretty well made.





Only negatives i found were the outside "flap/cover/thingy" sits a bit too snug against the roof so there wasnt that much ventilation and the door started a few inches above the ground so u have to be careful not to trip on it coming in or out. And in the morning, the dew got the insides near the bottom wet so dont put your stuff too close to the sides. I had no clue it would be soo cold!! Guess even in Hawaii its cold in the mornings! Ooo, forgot to add, id replace the tent spikes because the thin metal ones didnt really hold in the ground that well. I bought some cheap ones made out of plastic at walmart for few bucks.





Taking the tent down was a super breeze, and it even fit back in the original zipper bag with no problems. I even got it back in the original box!!





overall: awesome tent!! it was perfect and my daughters loved it! Ill have to take them camping again!!

this tent again has to many side screens. first of all, when the wind blows cold air comes under the rain cover. and dust blows into the tent. i had a problem with this tent, defective stiches and zipper defect the rods are terrible it only last 1 night of camping and the rods broke....don't recommend this tent.

My wife and I just got back from a trip with this tent and it worked great. It did not rain, but it was very windy the first night (gusting up to 25 mph). We did not use the rain-fly rods because the side windows do not have a zipper-flap to 'close' them. So, we just allowed the rain-fly to seal the windows, which it did quite nicely. Temperatures were in the mid 20s minus wind-chill, but we were comfortable in the tent. I don't know how this tent would've held up if we'd had a driving rain along with the wind, but frankly, we wouldn't have stayed in those conditions with ANY tent. This tent could sleep four adults elbow-to-elbow, but we had two twin airbeds to either side (for us) and two large dog beds between the beds. There was still plenty of room for boots, leashes and such at the foot of our beds, and I had a regular sized backpack, heavy jacket, and clothes at the head-end of my airbed.





Finally, I absolutely recommend getting real tent stakes, even those plastic yellow stakes. The little metal stakes that come with this tent are going to be useless at a lot of camp sites.

Selecting a Tent
Fortunately, there are all kinds of tents for weekend car campers, Everest expeditions, and everything in between. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

Expect the Worst
In general, it's wise to choose a tent that's designed to withstand the worst possible conditions you think you'll face. For instance, if you're a summer car camper in a region where weather is predictable, an inexpensive family or all-purpose tent will likely do the trick--especially if a vehicle is nearby and you can make a mad dash for safety when bad weather swoops in! If you're a backpacker, alpine climber, or bike explorer, or if you like to car camp in all seasons, you'll want to take something designed to handle more adversity.

Three- and Four-Season Tents
For summer, early fall, and late spring outings, choose a three-season tent. At minimum, a quality three-season tent will have lightweight aluminum poles, a reinforced floor, durable stitching, and a quality rain-fly. Some three-season tents offer more open-air netting and are more specifically designed for summer backpacking and other activities. Many premium tents will feature presealed, taped seams and a silicone-impregnated rain-fly for enhanced waterproofness.

For winter camping or alpine travel, go with a four-season model. Because they typically feature more durable fabric coatings, as well as more poles, four-season tents are designed to handle heavy snowfall and high winds without collapsing. Of course, four-season tents exact a weight penalty of about 10 to 20 percent in trade for their strength and durability. They also tend to be more expensive.

Domes and Tunnels
Tents are broadly categorized into two types, freestanding, which can stand up on their own, and those that must be staked down in order to stand upright. Freestanding tents often incorporate a dome-shaped design, and most four-season tents are constructed this way because a dome leaves no flat spots on the outer surface where snow can collect. Domes are also inherently stronger than any other design. Meanwhile, many three-season models employ a modified dome configuration called a tunnel. These are still freestanding, but they require fewer poles than a dome, use less fabric, and typically have a rectangular floor-plan that offers less storage space than a dome configuration. Many one- and two-person tents are not freestanding, but they make up for it by being more lightweight. Because they use fewer poles, they can also be quicker to set up than a dome.

Size Matters
Ask yourself how many people you'd like to fit in your fabric hotel now and in the future. For soloists and minimalists, check out one-person tents. If you're a mega-minimalist, or if you have your eye on doing some big wall climbs, a waterproof-breathable bivy sack is the ticket. Some bivy sacks feature poles and stake points to give you a little more breathing room. Also, if you don't need bug protection and you want to save weight, check out open-air shelters.

Families who plan on car camping in good weather can choose from a wide range of jumbo-sized tents that will accommodate all your little ones with room to spare. A wide range of capacities is also available for three- and four-season backpacking and expedition tents. Remember, though, the bigger the tent you buy, the heavier it will be, although it's easy to break up the tent components among several people in your group. It's also helpful to compare the volume and floor-space measurements of models you're considering.

 "Didn't last through first camping trip" 2009-06-07

We bought this tent because of it's great price and size. We set it up in our living room prior to our first camping trip and all seemed great! Our queen sized blow up fit inside and left a little room left over for misc items. Once we arrived at our campsite we began setting up our tent. All was well until on of the corner rings, that holds the support poles in place, ripped off. Ok, no big deal, we'll figure something out. The next thing that went was the door zipper. Half the time it would close, half the time it wouldn't close the zipper threads together. Other times it was just plain hard to pull - hard enough that my husband even had a hard time getting it shut. The next thing to go was the zipper for the door window. I went to unzip the window and noticed that the zipper had completely pulled apart from one side rendering that zipper usless and the door window now always partially open.



If these things had not happened we would have been completely happy with our purchase. However, we are now trashing the tent after one use. Spend the money and buy a quality made tent in the first place!

I have used the tent on two weekend camping trips. Both times it rained and the tent leaked. Out of the box, it leaked through the rainfly. This was fixed with seam sealer. The bigger issue is the leaking where the sides meet the bottom. The bottom overlaps the sides and forms a small channel which collects water and allows water to enter the tent.

How the title goes, an exelent product for the price, its larger than a usual tent, we managed to fit 5 people comfortably. The only drawback is the waterproof side. When we camped it rained very hard, and over the time water filtered through, while another tent we had, it didnt happen.

I bought three of these.



The zippers are total garbage. Very very light weight heads (or whatever you call the thing you pull). One of them broke in half even with careful use--our entire trip, it seemed, was about the zippers on the tents--making that tent useless. The other two tents had to have the zippers fixed over and over again--we had to coax them back on their tracks, painstakingly and time-consumingly.



Material is flimsy in the extreme--a slight wind kept us cold all night. Rainfly is preposterously small.



The clips (attaching tent to poles) are made of very cheap, very brittle plastic. They are also quite small and inefficiently designed. I broke one on the first set-up, and I was being ridiculously careful as it was already clear that the clips were fragile. Another one shattered when we struck camp.



This was an easy, car-camping short trip in nice weather. The tents didn't stand up at all.



It's not a bargain if you have to throw it away. I bought mine when they cost $33 and change, and I wouldn't take one now if you paid me that much to do so. They are not worth the room they take up.



It doesn't deserve the one star I had to give it. Amazon: we need a NO STAR option. Actually, we need a Negative Star option.

I bought this one knowing that I shouldn't expect top quality from a tent this price, however after try it I'm rather disappointed. First, the six pegs included with the tent are too weak to stand against the slightest wind and I should forage for some wood sticks to fix the tent, so you better buy a separate set of heavier pegs before leaving for your first trip. Besides, the second time I set it up the main zipper for one of the doors broke down and I had to spend the rest of the day with this door open, mend it back at home and use just one door from then on (until it fails too I guess). Consider spending twice as much if you can and prefer to stay free from this headaches.

 "Suprisingly disappointed" 2009-08-30

I have owned an 8 x 8 tent made by Eureka (Gander Mountain label) for about 8 years and it is an excellent tent. I also own a 7 x 8 tent made by Kelty which is also and excellent tent. I take great care of my tents as well. I bought this tent with great excitement, for two reasons: It was designed more like my Kelty tent, which I love, and because it had the Eureka name, which is considered to be a great name in tents.



After unboxing the tent, I set it up in no time at all. This tent sets up VERY EASY, just like my Kelty. After getting it set up and taking a closer look at the seams, etc., I discovered that there were about 2 inches of missing stitches along one of the seams. I accepted this as merely a mass-production flaw and I stitched it up. I REALLY wanted to keep this tent. The next day, I began examing the surface of the tent fabric a bit more and discovered a couple small holes that were obviously original holes (smooth edges). At this point I was becoming skeptical of whether this tent was REALLY any better than the cheap tents you can get at Walmart. I tried to ignore these flaws, becaust at this point, I still really wanted to keep this tent because of it's ease of set-up and it's great ventilation.



The next week I took this tent on our annual Canadian adventure into northern Ontario, to be used for interior kayak camping. It set up easily, It held up good in the rain, but not great, and everything went fairly well with it for 3 nights. At this point, I had planned on keeping it. Then, upon returning home,I unpacked it to dry it out more thoroughly, and I noticed that one of the metal ferrules had just fallen off the end of one of the fly rods. I was so disappointed, as I knew I could not justify keeping this tent.



It is my opinion, based on examining a LOT of tents, that this tent, as much as I want to say otherwise, is no better in quality than those that are half the price from Walmart or similar stores. From the crooked weak stitching, to the inferior fabric, to the horribly assembled rods, I saw no reason to pay twice as much as a similar tent.



Either Eureka quality has dramatically gone down over the years, or they are having their less expensive tents built by some inferior company, and selling them with the Eureka name. One thing is absolute, this tent was not near the quality of the one I bought years ago for about the same price, not even close. I am guessing that if I kept this tent, it wouldn't have lasted more than 2 years of regular camping. I returned it.



I would have given it 3 stars because that's what it is, and AVERAGE tent. However, because it cost twice as much as the same size AVERAGE tent from Walmart, I had to deduct 1 star. If you want an average tent that will perform just as good as this one, you can get one for half the price. If you want a high-quality tent for more money, look elsewhere. I wish I could recommend this tent but I cannot.

In the past I rarely tent camped -- just two backpack tenting experiences (on Sado Island for Earth Festival), two car camping expeditions (in Yellowstone, then Malibu) and one week living in a platform tent while working at a Girl Scout Camp in high school.



So I was nervous about committing to a tent.



I read all kinds of reviews of mass-produced tents and higher-end tents. I'd decided that if I couldn't get a higher-end tent (a Kelty, an REI or a Eureka) at a good price I'd go with a mass-produced 4-person Quest Eagle's Peak at Dick's for [..]



I do energy work and thought "Why not use Law of Attraction for the perfect tent?"



So I wrote in my journal "I'd like the Eureka Tetragon 5 for [..] or less or even better."



The next day after lunching with my friends, I rushed to Dick's b/c I had to get up the road.



Imagine my excitement when I saw the Eureka Tetragon 8 for [..]! An unadvertised special!



It's a breeze to put up and take down, and b/c I am a camping wussy, I am happy to say it fits my full-size air-mattress with tons of room for my boyfriend (6" 4"') and me and our gear.



We didn't get the predicted rain, but am confident that it will do well.



Am considering getting some polyfil for underneath from Lowe's.

 "Great tent for the money" 2009-06-05

Having a brand new Tiger Cub and the first of many camping trips coming up this summer a new tent was in order. After reviewing many sites such as EMS, REI, I decided on a four person, 3 season tent.



The Tetragon offers a few of the most important features for me:

- Polyester construction - no nylon means longer life

- Easy setup - think Tiger Cub helper - only 2 poles!

- Desperate fly - passed the garden hose rain test with flying colors

- Right height - my 48" tall son can stand in the middle

- Light weight - not a backpacking tent but easily carried in my ruck sack



Overall, very pleased with this tent - costs a bit more than some Coleman or other large brands, but for me buying a tent from a tent company is important.



Recommend buying the footprint and the correct stakes for you anticipated soil type - this tent doesn't come with them (and shouldn't). Eureka did lose one star for the slightly lower quality stuff sacks - there's no drawstring button (the little spring-loaded clip) to keep the tent in and because the tent poles keep the rolled (or stuffed) length a bit too wide.



Highly recommend despite the 2 VERY minor issues above.

I ordered this tent because I need a tent I can set it up by myself. It was so easy to set up the very first time. The two poles set up first and then, beginning at the bottom, the tent is easily snapped onto the poles. Lots of ventilation for warm weather camping, yet the fly that goes over the whole thing keeps rain out. I really love this tent.

Typical Eureka product: well made. Easy to set up and take down. Compact size carrying size makes packing easy. Definitely not a "four person" tent - very comfortable for two people.
